University student develops capsule to purify water

Mexico, Abr (Notimex).- With the advice of academics, the student of the University of the Valley of Mexico (UVM), Shirley Kimberly Enríquez, developed a cactus-based capsule, capable of purifying water.

Noptec - as this product is called - is free of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for water purification, as no fossil fuels are used at any stage of the process.

The capsule was created as an alternative to help solve the problem of access to drinking water in marginalized communities in Mexico.

According to laboratory tests, each one-gram Noptec capsule manages to purify water of bacteria, mineral salts and heavy metals such as selenium and lead.
