Mexican woman among the most promising scientists

Mexico, Mar (Notimex).- The Mexican Ana Sofía Varela Gasque, of the Institute of Chemistry (IQ) of the UNAM, was considered one of the 15 most promising young scientists in the world.

The distinction was made by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The undergraduate focuses her researches on how to reuse Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in a sustainable manner.

Thanks to her work in the development of new materials to accelerate the chemical reactions that allow transforming CO2 into non-polluting materials, Varela Gasque obtained in 2017 the L'Oréal UNESCO-CONACyT-CONALMEX-AMC grant.
