Hydro-Quebec seeks to boost solar energy in Mexico

Quebec (Notimex) – Canadian firm Hydro-Quebec is seeking to sign a deal in Mexico to reactivate 60 hydroelectric plants.

The goal is to generate clean energy and lower costs for consumers.

“This is very timely for Mexico because the current hydroelectric plants are not operating at full capacity,” said Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador after showing a video to the press about his meeting with Hydro-Quebec executives.

“If possible, turbines will be changed to double the current amount of energy produced by the hydroelectric plants,” he added.

“Hydroelectric energy is the ideal way to face the challenges North America faces in terms of lowering greenhouse emissions and guaranteeing a safe electricity supply,” Hydro-Quebec said in a statement.
