León: First Mexican city to develop shopping tourism
León (Notimex) - The city of León, in the central state of Guanajuato, will be the first Mexican city to develop a shopping tourism project.
The project is led by the city's government and the World Tourism Organization.
León is renown in Mexico for its production of leather shoes and goods.
The project came after the World Tourism Organization's General Assembly in Medellín in 2015.
A team from the Organization will visit León next month to begin workshops for the project.
The leather goods industry has reached a wider client base, expanding from shoes to bags, accessories, clothing, as well as to the automotive and aeronautical industry, said León's Tourism and Hospitality Director, Gloria Magaly Cano.
She added that the project also aims to place León as an innovative tourism destination in other areas and to seek strategic relationships to continue growing.
