Morelia [Notimex] - The first groups of monarch butterflies have begun to arrive to the state of Michoacán for the annual migration, said the state's environment minister, Mauro Ballesteros.
The first colony of butterflies in Michoacán was spotted last weekend, he added.
The butterflies migrate from Canada to Mexico every year.
"This year they were slightly late due to rain, but the first colonies have arrived," Ballesteros said.
He added that the forecast for the 2018-2019 season is positive, and the butterfly sanctuary in Michoacán is expected to open to the public by November 25.
