Mexico (Notimex) - The 246-meter high Torre Reforma has been given the International Highrise Award 2018 for the most innovative skyscraper in the world.
The building is a project by Mexican architect Benjamín Romano, who will receive the award in a ceremony in Frankfurt.
Torre Reforma was chosen as the most innovative out of 36 buildings across 15 countries.
Torre Reforma, in Mexico City's Reforma avenue district, is currently the tallest building in the city.
The building holds the LEED Platinum distinction due to its smart design which saves up to 25 percent more energy than other buildings, and uses 85 percent local materials which avoids transporting material on trucks which in turn cuts down its carbon footprint.
Ina Hartwig, Frankfurt's councillor on culture and science, said that "Torre Reforma stands our for its extraordinary architecture. It's futuristic facade opens to one ofthe largest parks in the world".
"Torre Reforma is inspired in equal measure by structural engineers and architects as a masterful demonstration of a new focus on skyscrapers, and therefore is a well-deserved winner," she added.
