Mexico (Notimex) – Sail ships from eight Latin American countries will visit Mexico as part of the 2018 Latin American Sail Ship Regatta, the Mexican Navy said.

The ships began their voyage in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and will arrive to Mexican coasts after sailing for 157 days.

The ships have sailed more than 12,000 nautical miles, visiting Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Curacao and the Dominican Republic.

The ships are the “Freedom” from Argentina; Brazil’s “White Swan”; Chile’s “Emerald”; Colombia’s “Glory”; Ecuador’s “Guayas”; Peru’s “Union”; Venezuela’s “Simón Bolivar” and Mexico’s “Cuauhtémoc”.

The regatta will end at the port of Cozumel, on Mexico’s Mayan Riviera, and the event will include concerts, folk shows and water sport competitions.

The regatta is held every four years and aims to strengthen ties between the countries and their navies.
