Mexico aims to become world's fifth largest car producer




Mexico (Notimex) - Mexico is aiming to become the fifth largest automobile producer in the world by 2020, with an annual production of 5 million vehicles.

Mexico is currently seventh, will reach fifth place after new proposed plants are inaugurated, said Osvaldo Belmont, director of the Mexican Automobile Industry Association, AMIA.

This year, production is expected to reach 4 million cars, once BMW and other brands start operations in their plants, he added.

If the goal is reached, Mexico would surpass South Korea and India.
