Mexico (Notimex) – Two out of five Mexican travellers (39 percent) are planning to visit eco-tourism destinations this year. The figure is far above the world average of 28 percent, according to a study by Booking.com.
In terms of global visitors, six out of 10 want to return to visit a natural site in Mexico.
The study showed that 53 percent prefer to buy local handcrafts instead of mass-produced souvenirs; 52 percent use local public transport; 41 percent look for restaurants that use local ingredients and 30 percent stay at a sustainable accommodation.
Forty-percent of respondents would like a feature in booking websites that filters options to show sustainable accommodation.
