Mexican researcher wins Weizmann Award

Toluca (Notimex) - Mexican researcher José Javier Reyes, from the Medicine Faculty at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, won the 2017 Weizmann Award for his PhD thesis.

The Weizmann Award is given to the best PhD thesis published in Mexico from 35 areas of science.

The award is granted by the Mexican Academy of Sciences and the Mexican Assocation of Friends.

The topic of Reyes's thesis is the relationship between inflammatory responses with heart rate fluctuations during birth.

The topic is relevant considering Mexico's rate of premature births is 20 percent.

His research for the thesis was carried out with several institutions, including the Duisburg-Essen University and the Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz Institute of Psychiatry.
