Mexico (Notimex) – Mexico has joined Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador in an initiative aimed at protecting the wildlife, islands and ecosystems in the Pacific Ocean.
The move comes during the World Ocean Summit 2018, where Mexico showcased the Revillagigedo Natural Park in the Pacific Ocean, the largest of its kind in North America.
The group will join forces in terms of good practices, collaboration, education and monitoring to protect areas such as Revillagigedo and the Galapagos Islands.
The Revillagigedo National Park is home some 983 species.
Revillagigedo was given UN World Heritage Site status in 2016, and in November last year it was proclaimed a Mexican National Park, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said.
