New York to host world's first opera with mariachi
New York (Notimex) - The New York City Opera is preparing to host the "Cruzar la cara de la luna," (To cross the face of the moon) show, the first opera in the world to be written specifically for mariachi music.
The opera has four dates, from January 25 to 28 at the Rose Theater, Lincoln Center, in Manhattan.
The script was written by Leonard Foglia, and the music was composed and arranged by José Martínez, for the renown band Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán.
Mexican baritone Octavio Moreno plays the role of Laurentino, the main character.
The story of the opera follows three generations of a family defined by the border, who cross it a number of times.
