Mexican economy to grow 2.1 percent this year: IMF

Washington – Mexico’s economy will grow 2.1 percent this year, according to a forecast by the International Monetary Fund.

The figure represents an increase of 0.4 percent compared to its previous estimate in April. The figure is optimistic despite Mexico facing uncertainty regarding the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement, Nafta.

In the medium term, the country’s structural reforms are expected to boost the economy by 2.7 percent ever year, the Fund said.

But for 2018, the Fund forecasts Mexico’s economy to slow down to a 1.9 percent growth.
