Iberdrola Mexico wins environmental excellence award

Mexico (Notimex) -- The Mexican unit of Spanish energy firm Iberdrola has received the Environmental Excellence Award

The firm was given the award for its exemplary performance and continuous improvement in its commitment to protecting the environment in its operations in the Combined Cycle Power Plant Altamira III and IV in northern state of Tamaulipas.

That plant is the first in the group to receive this badge, while all of Iberdrola's facilities in Mexico have the Clean Industry Certificate granted by Profepa and ISO 14001 Environmental Management certification, the company said in a statement.

The company "has assumed its leadership in the fight against climate change and in support of sustainability and the environment. The achievement of this recognition revalidates our social commitment and the responsibility to contribute to the care of the environment and the development of the country," said Iberdrola Mexico director general, Enrique Alba.

It should be noted that companies that aspire to the award must have the Environmental Performance Level 2 mark and not to have been subject to sanctions by the environmental authorities during the entire year prior to the call, among other requirements.
