Mexico's car industry breaks export and production record
Mexico (Notimex) -- Mexico's car industry broke production and export records in 2016, according to Rogelio Garza Garza, undersecretary for Industry and Trade at the Ministry of Economy.
During 2016, Mexico produced 3.5 million cars, and exported 2.8 million.
The figures put Mexico as the world's seventh largest vehicle producer and fourth largest exporter.
The auto-parts industry also has a significant role in Mexico's economy, Garza said, contributing 8.6 percent of the manufacturing gross domestic product.
Some 668 thousand people work in the auto-parts sector, 5 percent more than the year before.
