International Culture Festival to boost ecotourism in Mahahual
Chetumal (Notimex) -- Mahahual, a port on Mexico's Caribbean coast, will host the "Crossing Borders" International Culture Festival 2017 from May 20 to May 27, the Quintana Roo state Tourism ministry said.
The event's theme will be "bridges, not walls," the ministry added.
Mahuahal is Mexico's second largest port in terms of cruise arrivals.
More than 135 Mexican and international artists are expected to take part in the festival.
The festival will promote environmental awareness and sustainability, as well as promote arts and culture, the state's Tourism minister, Marisol Vanegas Pérez, said.
During the week-long festival, activities such as music, cinema, yoga, writing, painting and photography workshops will be available to the public.
The event will also hold book presentations, theater plays, cabaret and concerts.
"The artists will not charge, they share with us the aim to defend our environment and for a world without borders," said the event's art director, Luciano Consoli.
