Mexico to open Country in Focus program at Berlinale festival

Mexico (Notimex) – Mexico will be the first guest at the Country in Focus program by the European Film Market, EFM, in Berlin.

The program will show some of the best Mexican films from February 9 to 17.

The program is part of the Germany-Mexico Dual Year.

“Being part of this program represents an important gateway for Mexican film and get more people to see it, said Jorge Sánchez, director of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, Imcine.

“We are very lucky to be the opening country at the EFM. Each year, Mexican film has felt at home at the Berlinale, and this new collaboration will surely strengthen our ties with the festival,” Sánchez added.

For his part, Matthjis Wouter Knol, director of the EFM, said that “this initiative seeks to highlight countries with exciting filmmaking, such as Mexico, and allows those countries to present their work and build connections with other filmmakers and promote exchanges within the film industry”.
